Cromer hospital is a regional day care hospital occupying outdated and sprawling accommodation. The NHS Trust Fund was bequeathed a substantial sum of money by a former patient to fund a new purpose-built hospital.

The new hospital will be constructed on the site of the former hospital. Public access to key medical services will be maintained throughout demolition of the existing buildings and construction and phased occupancy of the new accommodation.

The design of the new hospital is restricted by the small site and the continuation of hospital services, but it must meet the high expectations of the client and the local community.

We have designed a dynamic two-storey solution with zinc roofing and highly insulated render walling, materials chosen for their proven life span on coastal sites. The building is set to acheive a BREEAM Very Good rating and will include sustainable features including photovoltaic cells and underfloor heating from ground source heat pumps. The project is due for completion in 2013.
