David’s fascination with the design and construction of historic buildings stretches back to his childhood. Studying them in detail remains his chief recreational interest and this in turn has informed his work as a senior conservation architect.

David has been practising as an architect in the Oxford area for 20 years and now runs the Oxford studio which opened in 2006. He has particular experience of working on public buildings and churches and has specialised in the Education and Heritage Sectors. His knowledge of school design has led to his appointment as the practice’s sector head for the educational field. Despite David’s academic interest in the historic environment, he adopts a strongly practical approach to problem-solving and he is committed to increasing his knowledge of conservation techniques through continuing professional development.

As a manager and an architect, David thrives on the dual responsibility of designing and leading a dedicated team. He takes great satisfaction in going the extra mile for clients ensuring that every final detail is correct from the outset, and that projects are delivered on time and on budget. Many that bear his stamp have won awards, including those from the RIBA, the Civic Trust, the Oxford Preservation Trust and Europa Nostra.

David is an excellent communicator and has built up strong working relationships with Oxford County Council, the Oxford Preservation Trust and local planning officers. He also prides himself on maintaining goodwill amongst his clients, both public and private, which has led to significant repeat business.

Looking to the future, David is enthusiastic about taking on more new build projects in parallel with his lifelong commitment to conservation.

Paying close attention to the detail is the best way to ensure the success of a project. This extends to listening with great care to the needs and aspirations of the client’.
