With a strong aptitude for art and physics, Richard has been able to develop both his practical and creative sides as an architect. He was an early starter – drawing building sections from the age of seven.

Before joining the practice in 1998, Richard amassed wide experience of a mix of projects, from schools and colleges to private and social housing, whilst working for a number of architects in and around Cambridge and North Essex. He has a particular enthusiasm for projects within the domestic and education fields.

Richard enjoys analyzing a site and responding to the context and constraints of the local environment. Energy conservation is a particular interest, and Richard likes to make use of renewable technologies and sustainable techniques where possible.

Richard relishes the challenge of converting, extending and improving existing buildings and has a strong interest in the demands of newbuild in historic settings. He has wide experience of liaising with English Heritage and other conservation bodies, who have come to value his knowledge and painstaking approach.

Richard prides himself on offering a first-class service to clients to ensure the end product fulfils their aspirations. He brings great sensitivity, together with well-honed diplomatic skills, to his work. These come to the fore both on site and when dealing with planning and listing authorities.

“When it comes to design, I don’t take a ‘one-style-fits-all’ approach, but like to respond to the specific context, constraints and demands of the site and that specific client’s brief”.
