Joanne’s portfolio encompasses a broad range of projects, from speculative housing schemes to church repairs, with historic building work remaining a constant thread throughout her career.

Since joining the practice in 1997, Joanne has been responsible for a range of stimulating projects across many sectors. Her work has been primarily with public and cultural buildings, and she is adept at managing demanding projects with institutional clients, finding commonly acceptable solutions for stakeholders with varying priorities. She is highly sensitive to the issues of accountability and value for money that are particularly crucial for publicly funded projects.

Currently working as part of the multi-disciplinary design team responsible for the re-presentation of the Great Tower at Dover Castle, she enjoys working collaboratively and is quick to build up a rapport with everyone involved in a project.

Joanne relishes the challenge of working within the historic built environment, and is particularly interested in integrating contemporary design into historic contexts, finding solutions to facilitate sustainable change. Joanne believes that design should be of its time and avoid mimicry or pastiche. At the Choir House in Canterbury, she enjoyed balancing old and new, finding the constraints of the site enabling in their own right.
