Alasdair trained at Cambridge University and the Bartlett UCL. This strong academic background is matched by his impressive professional track record, which includes stints at leading UK architectural firms Foster + Partners and John McAslan + Partners.
Alasdair was also one of three founding partners of Bell Travers Wilson. As a Director at this innovative young practice, he was responsible for financial management, the creation of new business and project delivery. His role also involved building long-term relationships with clients.
His unusually diverse portfolio of projects encompasses work from across the UK, Europe and Africa and ranges in value from £25k to £250m. He has extensive experience of mixed-use, commercial and educational units and an in-depth understanding of bespoke residential projects for private clients, including refurbishment, remodelling and interior design. Alasdair's particular enthusiasm is for the cultural life of buildings, and so the practice, which he joined in 2009, became a natural home.
In addition to his technical expertise, Alasdair has a strong design vision. He has had close involvement in a number of successful competition entries throughout his career, often leading the creative process with fluent freehand drawings. He also has a keen interest in architectural education and has lectured at the Mackintosh School of Art and Byam Shaw School of Art. He is a guest critic for student design reviews at the University of Cambridge, the Bartlett UCL and London Metropolitan University.
Currently, Alasdair is responsible for the design and delivery of a new gallery and archive building for the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. This project includes the remodelling of one wing of the Grade I listed museum as a fully conditioned archive space and the addition of a major new contemporary entrance and gallery building, creating a new public frontage to the Royal park.
