PMT win role to convert a listed office block into a luxury hotel

22/05/2008:

Situated in Liverpool’s city centre, the new 90 bed hotel and spa will be based in the former Royal Insurance Building. Extensive refurbishment and conservation work will be carried out to restore the seven storey Edwardian structure that has remained empty and in a poor state of repair for over 15 years. It is in such a dilapidated state that it features on the English Heritage Buildings at-Risk Register.

The proposed conversion will include the provision of a health spa in the basement area of the building, making use of the existing attractive brick vaulted spaces. The ground floor will contain a restaurant and bar, together with a suite of meeting rooms, while the upper floors will make way for around 90 bedrooms. Other works include creating a contemporary addition to the uppermost floors of the building that will incorporate extra bedroom accommodation, complete with panoramic views of the city’s skyline.

James Sanderson, who runs Purcell Miller Tritton’s Liverpool operation said, “We are thrilled to be involved in the preliminary stage of such an exciting project in Liverpool whereby we can draw on our considerable experience and expertise in the repair and conservation of sensitive buildings and deliver an excellent result.”
