Graduate Training - Our Policy & Approach

If you are interested in embarking on a challenging career in architecture, we can offer you a range of opportunities to develop the skills you will need.

There is no better way to do this than to get fully involved in project work. We have a diverse range of building projects in our studios, and if you are an ambitious Part I or Part II graduate or a recently qualified architect we would really like to hear from you.

Based in one of our studios across the UK, you will not spend endless hours stuck behind a desk. Site work, be it for surveys or perhaps for site inspections for a project under construction, is a very necessary day to day activity, and you can expect to get involved in this from an early stage. On some projects you might be part of a larger team, but on the smaller schemes we would soon want you to take on the role of job runner. As you build up experience you can expect the size and complexity of your projects to grow too. We would expect you to get involved in all aspects of architectural practice from measured surveys, preparing designs and technical details, meeting clients and building contractors, but we would also teach you how to manage the finances and resources of successful, high-quality projects and to gain an understanding of how these issues are associated with the good performance and reputation of our practice.

Each trainee architect is assigned to an experienced partner or associate to act as their mentor. Your mentor will be there to answer questions and generally help to steer you on the right course. We recognise that professional qualifications are likely to play a vital part in your career development, and we have a number of measures in place to assist with this, including formal allowances for study leave and payment of RIBA Part III course fees. In addition to the above, we offer a competitive package including contributory pension, life insurance and five weeks paid annual holiday.
